Bardi is rare. Only 5% of the olive oil in Italy comes from Tuscany, where the Bardi olives grow. It is as rare as the poets – the bardi – like Dante and Boccaccio who lived there.
In the rolling hills of Siena, near the region that produces the noble Montepulciano wines, a family carries on the centuries-old traditions of Tuscan extra virgin olive oil. Before Columbus even thought about going to America, every farmer in Siena was planting four olive trees a year – it was the law.
